Whispers From The Past
An inquiry into the historical, cultural, and intergenerational stories of Muslim Indian indentured labourers and their descendants from Trinidad and Tobago.
You are invited to participate in a research study exploring the intergenerational experiences of the descendants of Muslim Indian indentured labourers. The study aims to highlight historical narratives, identity, and cultural heritage.
Please email Shazia at moha9510@mylaurier.ca for more information or to participate. And please forward this to anyone you think may be interested!
To participate, you self-identify as Muslim, were born in Trinidad and Tobago, have at least one (1) direct ancestor who was a Muslim Indian indentured labourer in Trinidad and Tobago, currently reside in Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, or the United States of America, and comfortable sharing your personal and/or family experiences regarding heritage, identity, and intergenerational history.
Logistics: You will be asked to participate in a one-on-one interview to share your ancestral stories and discuss your experiences and perspectives as a descendant. The interview will take about 60 to 90 minutes. You may be asked to participate in a follow-up interview, which will take about 30 minutes. The interview will be conducted in person or online via Zoom.Â
